Variety of lakes in and around Pfronten

The fifth largest lake in Bavaria

With a length of 12 km and a width of up to 3 km, Lake Forggensee is the fifth largest lake in Bavaria. In its southern part there are great views of Neuschwanstein Castle, Hohenschwangau and Füssen Festival Hall.

This is also the starting point of the Lake Forggensee boat trip. The shorter (approx. 50 minutes) and longer round trip (approx. 2 hours) are great opportunities to enjoy the magnificent mountain panorama from the water.

Romantic evening cruises, evening cruises with live music and King Ludwig cruises are also available.

Lake Forggensee is a paradise for all water sports enthusiasts. Whether it’s sailing, rowing, surfing or a boat trip – almost everything is possible here.

At Lake Forggensee, anglers can find the following fish: Eel, perch, trout, pike, carp, whitefish, tench and sander.

The ideal lake for families.

Lake Weissensee is the ideal lake for families, with its extensive sunbathing meadow, great playground and snack bar. Whether it’s splashing around, swimming, sunbathing on the raft, sliding, enjoying an ice cream or pedal boating – this is where holiday dreams come true.

The lake also offers secluded spots for adults. There is plenty on offer for anglers as well: Eel, perch, trout, pike, carp, vendace, char, tench, whitefish and sander.

A beautiful Alpine lake above the Weissensee near Füssen

This beautiful Alpine lake nestles amidst rolling forested hills, right on the Austrian border. The lake is accessible via a pleasant cycle ride along the Pfrontener Vils. In the summer, with its crystal-clear water, this Alpine lake offers true refreshment at any time and at all temperatures. The adjacent meadow is a great spot for relaxation.

There are several myths and rumours about Lake Alatsee which are even taken up in the book “Seegrund” by the Allgäu crime fiction authors Kobr and Klüpfel. You can even embark on an exciting hike during which you can get to the bottom of the secrets of Lake Alatsee in “Seegrund”.

Anglers will find trout, pike, carp and tench at this lake.

Large sunbathing areas and a unique mountain panorama characterise this lake.

Lake Attlesee is situated just behind lake Kögelweiher. It is characterised by its large sunbathing areas on both sides and its unique mountain panorama. The lake is also shallow at first, which means parents with children can safely enjoy the optimum bathing fun. You can also use the changing room and toilets available at the lake.

Around Lake Attlesee there is a “path of contemplation” (GE(h)ZEITEN), which stimulates to all of the senses. It is also possible to go fishing here along the shore side. The lake is home to eel, barbel, pike, carp, crayfish and tench.

Lake Grüntensee is situated at the foot of the Grünten near Wertach (Oberallgäu).

This large lake offers a wide variety of recreational activities. For example, hiking or cycling around the lake on the well-maintained 9 km cycling and hiking trail. The lake also offers any number of bathing opportunities.

For anglers, there is a fishing trail on the west shore and a wide range of angling opportunities.

Lake Hopfensee is often referred to as the Allgäu Riviera

With its lakeside promenade, Lake Hopfensee is often referred to as the Allgäu Riviera. The lakeside promenade invites visitors to take a stroll or walk around the lake, and the numerous restaurants entice them to come in and eat. It is framed by a magnificent mountain panorama, with the Ammergau Alps, the Tannheim Alps and the Allgäu Alps.

Neuschwanstein Castle stands aloft in the midst of this panoramic view. Water sports enthusiasts can also find what they are looking for here – pedal boats, rowing boats, sailing boats and windsurfers can all be found here.

Eel, pike, carp, tench, whitefish and sander await anglers in the waters of this lake.

Surrounded by beautiful woodland and away from the road traffic

Lake Kögelweiher is only about 10 minutes away from Pfronten.

Surrounded by beautiful woodland and away from the road traffic, the lake offers breathtaking views of the mountain scenery of Pfronten from its north side.

Lake Moorsee is ideal for swimming, and usually stays pleasantly warm into the evening.

It’s also great for angling.

The beautiful Schwaltenweiher near Seeg

The natural outdoor swimming lake at Schwaltenweiher near Seeg offers a variety of recreational activities: A beach volleyball court, a restaurant with kiosk and rowing boat hire.

Lake Vilsalpsee is located in the neighbouring Tannheimer valley – starting point: Tannheim

The lake is a small piece of untouched nature – flowery sloping meadows on its eastern shore and steep limestone walls on its southern shore, with grass frogs, mallards, coots and great crested grebes breeding among the puzzle grass. It is possible to walk all around the lake to the Vilsalpe on the southern shore along a pleasant hiking trail.

There are also two additional restaurants on the northern shore. Lake Vilsalpsee is also the starting point for other hiking tours, such as to the Obere Traualpe with Lake Traualpsee, which can be reached in one hour.

Tannheim makes every effort to protect the nature reserve. Between 10 am and 5 pm, the road to Lake Vilsalpsee (with certain exceptions) is therefore closed to general traffic. During this time, it is possible to travel to Lake Vilsalpsee on the compact “Alpen-Express” funicular railway, for example.
